영어로 상대를 지칭할 때 ‘Opponent’ 라고 할 때가 많은데요, 모든 상황에 적절하지 않습니다.
Opponent 는 (경쟁)상대, (대결)상대 라는 뜻입니다.
스포츠나 게임할 때 쓰는 ‘상대’ 라는 표현.
I really enjoyed playing chess with Mike. He was a worthy opponent.
마이크랑 체스한게 너무 즐거웠다. 그는 겨루어 볼 만한 상대였다.

Even if you think the person you are talking to is lying, give him a benefit of the doubt.
