Well, thank you so much, Facebook, for hosting this, first of all. My name is Barack Obama, and I’m the guy who got Mark to wear a Jacket and tie. I am very proud of that.

I know. I will say and I hate to tell stories on Marc, but the first time we had dinner together and he wore this jacket and tie, I’d say halfway through dinner he’s starting to sweat a little bit. It’s really uncomfortable for him. So I helped him out of his jacket. And in fact, if you’d like, Marc, we can take your jacket off.

Yes, but you’re a lot better at this stuff than me.
The President:
So, first of all, I just want to say thank you to all of you for taking this time – not only people who are here in the audience, but also folks all over the country and some around the world who are watching this town hall, The main reason we wanted to do this is, first of all, because more and more people, especially young people, are getting their information through different media. And obviously what all of you have built together is helping to revolutionize how people get information, how they process information, how they’re connecting with each other. And historically, part of what makes for a healthy democracy, what is a good politics, is when you’ve got citizen who are informed, who are engaged.
(우선, 함께 있는 관객들뿐 만 아니라, 이 것을 시청하고 있는 분들에게도 시간을 내 주어서 감사합니다. 우리가 지금 이 타운 홀에서 여기서 토론을 하는 중요한 이유는; 첫 번째로 점점 많은 젊은 사람들이 다른 매체를 통해서 많은 정보를 얻고 있다. 그리고 페이스 북에서 너희가 해낸 것들이 사람들이 정보를 얻고, 정보를 나누고, 서로서로 공유하는데 혁명적인 한 것이다. 그리고 역사적으로도 건강한 민주주의를 만드는데 한 몫 했다. 좋은 정치는 시민들이 정보를 잘 알고 있는 것과 참여되어야 합니다.)
And what Facebook allows us to do is make sure this isn’t just a one-way conversation; make sure that not only am speaking to you but you’re also speaking back and we’re in a conversation, we’re in a dialogue. So I love doing town hall meeting. This format and this company I think is an ideal for us to be able to carry on this conversation.

And as Marc mentioned, obviously we’re having a very serious debate right now about the future direction of our country. We are living through as tumultuous a time as certainly I’ve seen in my lifetime. Admittedly, my lifetime is a lot longer than most of yours so far. This is a pretty young crowd.
