The proper usage of “must” / ‘Must’의 진짜 용법
Must (문어체)
Rarely used to mean “해야 하다,” except in formal speech.
Must는 오래된 표현이기도 하고 지나치게 격식적인 표현이라 말할 때는 어색합니다.
반면에 Must는 글 쓸때는 많이 사용합니다.
“I must to do my homework” 굳이 직역하면 “숙제하겠노라”
Have to (구어체)
“Have to” is used conversationally, while “must” is used in essays and other formal writing.
“~해야한다”는 의미로 말할 때는 “Have to” 를 사용합니다.
Must와 반대로 이 표현은 글을 쓸 때는 사용하지 않습니다.
“I have to do my homework”
When used to express a guess
평소에 대화속에 must를 많이 사용하는데 그것은 추측, 짐작할때 사용합니다.
You must be tired. 피곤하시겠어요.
You must be worn out. 녹초가 되겠네요.
You must be exhausted. 힘 다 빠졌겠어요.
You must be so relieved. 마음이 놓이시겠어요 / 안심되시겠어요
You must have let out a sigh of relief at the news that he was safe.
과거형으로
You must’ve been so disappointed. 정말 실망하셨겠어요
They must’ve been devastated. 처참했겠어요
They must’ve been just devastated at the news. 처참한 심정이었겠어요
